Finished. I have super-cool, homemade, flying contraption, “go-with” stamps.

bon voyage.jpg

Last night, I had anxiety dreams about my stamps and how the images were too heavy. (It is settled, I am crazy.) So as soon as time permitted, about 8 am, I tackled texture on my stamps. I added some detail in the balloon, texture in the basket, and more definition in the tips and bases of the wings. I am much happier with my product. I am going to clean up each stamps’ background later today, but I am submitting this post, stamps as is, to Crusade No. 18.

After I finished adding some detail, I made the bon voyage card pictured above. I used my super cool, homemade stamps, machine made alphabet stamps, ink, glue stick, reproduced Victorian scraps and a copy from a page from a 1965 Paris Michelin guide. I am very happy with my card.

I intend to incorporate my flying contraption “go-with” stamps in card-making, in my journal and in my next bookmaking project. I have another card in mind – a welcome home card, using an old photo of a house I picked up for pennies a few weeks ago.

If you want a recap of my entire stamp carving journey, check out the all the posts listed below. If you just want to know how I came to make flying contraption “go-with” stamps skip ahead to the last post on the list.

An “L” to call my very own.
My DIY “L” stamp needs more.
More work on the L.
Craft or die.
Totally Awesome.
GPP Street Team Crusade No. 18.

And thank you to everyone who left encouraging comments suggesting that I pick up my carving tools and try again.

How clever! How complete – it is wonderful to see the stamps in such witty use. They are not heavy at all, they would be fun to use with paints as well.

Very cool! And I love the addition of the clouds, too. The texture on the balloon is great, I’ll have to remember that. I was brainstorming more ideas and rejected a couple things that I thought would have too much blank surface. Duh…Texture!

    I love “L” number 2 – Great detailing! Don’t give up on it…

Thanks for coming by and your nice words! Truthfully, I was far from fearless but I soldiered on once I had the idea for what I wanted to do. The vast expanse of rubber was pretty daunting.

Thanks for sharing your whole process – I loved that you put all the links up.

It’s very cool to see the journey behind the art. Congratulations on figuring out how to make it work for you. The art the stamps were used on is so charming and joyful.

The hot air ballon (with propeller) is FAB! Great idea! I have to say I really liked your “L” sometimes simple is the best. And your skull image you made in PS rocks even if it was too hard to carve. All very creative ideas (and I cracked up when you said your nights were more like Enter Sandman than Mr. Sandman… what a contrast, LOL!

These are so great, I couldn’t figure out which were the stamps at first. Take flight!
