Think Like a Kid Again!
Playing with my daughter is an endless source of creative inspiration. Yesterday I tried to teach her how to draw with crayons. Although she preferred to eat them (she does not yet understand the difference between “non-toxic” and “lunch”) she did eventually make some marks on the page and so did I and my husband. D. drew a Crayola Rocket/Tank Crayon and I drew a “lovebug.” We had a ton of fun.
Today wee-one and I went to my mother’s house. A flat-packed, new highchair had arrived in the mail and I sat down to assemble it. True to the nature of children, wee-one discovered the box! She loved sitting on it. Then I turned it into a tunnel which we took turns crawling through. And then, I realized what a lovely pitched roof the box would make. Directly behind me were two more large boxes containing luggage. Instead of luggage boxes, I saw a playhouse! I asked my mother to save me the boxes and I have started to dream about making wee-one’s new recycled cardboard playhouse!
If you are experiencing a creative slump, might I suggest getting on the ground and playing with a kid or two or three or ten. Nothing like a game of pretend to get the juices going…
I don’t need no stinkin’ kids to play with to get in touch with my inner child :-p Hmm. Might be a Gemini thing ^-^
I don’t know when crayons aren’t food anymore, but they still get eaten in my house!
Sock Monkey!!!
Self renewal is a full time job. It’s good that the Little One is on the job! š
At the risk of being cheesy, there’s a wonderful Rumi quote that is vaguely applicable:
“Today, like every other day, we wake up empty
and frightened.
Don’t open the door to the study and begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.”
Enjoy!
I love the sock monkey head!
